Current population estimates indicate that the population has risen to
around 6,000 since 2000, making it one of the larger mountain towns in
the Lake Arrowhead area.

Running Springs Tourism & Skiing
The
town itself tends to focus upon servicing the many tourists that visit
the area each year. Many visitors come to partake of the excellent
winter sports provided by the Snow Valley Ski Resort, which is only a
short distance from Running Springs.
Although tourism is a major
trade within the community, it also has some very close ties with
conservation and the environment. The San Bernardino National Forest
Association runs a local program named Children's Forest in the area,
and helps to teach young people the value of maintaining the
environment.

Each year,
there are several events and festivals which are centered in Running
Springs, California. The Mountain Top Days, is an event which is
sponsored by the Running Springs Chamber of Commerce, and has always
proved to be popular. The Huck Finn Fishing Derby is a lighthearted
fishing tournament, enjoyed by both locals and visitors.

Entertainment
and recreation within Running Springs is easily facilitated by any one
of a large number of facilities, many of which cater to the visiting
tourist’s as much as local trade. Of particular note is Redmond's Irish
Pub & Sports Bar, with a lively atmosphere with great, traditional
food. For a slightly more reserved eatery, Don's Fireside Lounge serves
fine food, in elegant surroundings.
Running Springs Schools
The
local Charles Hoffman Elementary School is considered to be of the
highest quality, and has been acclaimed nationally as a superior
educational establishment.
While much of Running Springs life is
tied to the tourist industry, it should not be forgotten that this is a
seasonal town, and it maintains its own identity throughout the year.
The local community people are friendly, and unlike many tourist
orientated areas, Running Springs still maintains a distinct character
of its own.
As a place to live, it offers an interesting mix of
leisure activities, in an old town community, whilst facilitating easy
access to some of the large urban areas within the county.
