the most enigmatic feature of Arrowhead Villas is the infamous Bracken
Fern Manor. Initially Bracken Fern Manor was the site of an old style
bordello which was administered by Chicago mobsters. It contained a
market, possibly as a front, and a full Gin house, including ladies of
less reputable morals and an illegal alcohol factory. Many visiting
cars would be fitted with a second fuel tank, which would be filled
with Gin to be smuggled out into the surrounding areas.
The
modern establishment is rather different, offering several rooms which
provide luxury accommodation, and a restaurant which specializes in
fine dining and gourmet food, within sumptuous surroundings. The Manor
has been featured on national TV several times, for both its history
and its current high quality Inn.
Arrowhead Villas Mutual Services Company
The
community itself is run by the Arrowhead Villas Mutual Services
Company, which is a non-profit making organization that sees to the
maintenance of Arrowhead Villas. Not only does it provide services such
as the water supply and wintertime snowplowing of the roads, it also
acts as the legal spokesman for the community.
